Today is National Doughnut Day and boy how they have changed! Growing up in Lincroft we had Freemans Bakery and that was it. You had your choice of jelly, powdered, plain, cinnamon crunch, crullers (glazed or not), vanilla or chocolate frosted and then MY favorite: vanilla cream.

It's not like that anymore. Today you can get a doughnut topped with pork roll and cheese, bacon and eggs, peanut butter and jelly. Or how about pulled pork, potato salad drizzled with BBQ sauce, and I kid you not, Dead Elvis (bananas, bacon, peanut butter, and jelly!) Seriously that's what it's called!

Here in Ocean County we have some really good places and fortunately one of them is right next door to our radio station, Uncle Doods. On a Saturday or Sunday unless you can spend an hour in line don't bother, but believe me it's WORTH the wait. Or you can always call in an order ahead and pick it up!

So long gone are the plain old fashions and here to stay is any weird combination you can come up with. Now, if you could create your own what would it be? My creation would be a raspberry cake with raspberry cream filling topped with raspberry Nerds cereal and a BIG glass of iced cold milk. Now just from writing this I have to let the waist out on my jeans about an inch!
