According to Google "Vault toilets are waterless, non-flush toilets that store excreta in a large airtight underground container (vault)."

This article is based on a true story and I want to help you here in Ocean County, not make the same mistake and end up going headfirst into a toilet. There is no reason ever to go "head first" into a toilet. Let's be safe out there ok.

First, let us begin with this poor woman this week who ended up stuck in the toilet. The article from News.com told the story of a woman in Washington state who was done hiking when she was using a "vaulted" toilet and was on the phone when it fell into the toilet. The woman, in her 40's, was using this "vault" toilet at Mt. Walker in Washington state. The woman allegedly took the toilet apart to expose the vault below. She used her dog's leash to try and fish the phone out.

According to reports, she tried getting the phone out of the toilet when she fell headfirst in. After trying to get out for 20 minutes she finally called for help on the same phone she dropped in the potty. Amazing it took her that long to call.

Local firefighters from nearby Brinnon and Quilcene fire departments responded and were able to help the woman out of the vault. First Responders were able to wash the human waste off the woman and they gave her a disposable Tyvek suit to wear. The woman declined medical treatment and left to return to California where she lives. She was not injured in the incident.

So here are a few simple things I want you to remember so you do not fall headfirst into a toilet here in Ocean County.

  • Don't use your phone on a toilet
  • Stay off the phone in public restrooms
  • Never take a public toilet, or any toilet apart, unless you are a licensed plumber
  • Never lean into any vault that is filled with human waste
  • Never lean "headfirst" into any vault filled with poop
  • Never wait 20 minutes stuck in a tub of poop to call for help, when you have a phone in your hands

Be safe folks and give the phone a break when on the potty.
