Exactly How Much Do We Love Our Wine In New Jersey?
We work hard here at the Jersey Shore. And we play hard, too. But more often than not, after another day of being a parent, coach, teacher, doctor, chef and all the other hats we wear on any given day, all we want to do is sink into a comfortable chair or around the fire pit and sip a nice glass of wine or two.

That's not asking too much, right? Yes, we love our wine here at the Jersey Shore, and all through the state for that matter. If wine were an Olympic sport, the Garden State would be wearing gold around our neck.
But, when BestLife broke it down, it turns out there are plenty of other states drinking more wine than we do. I don't know about you, but that kind of insulted me. Here we are thinking we're wine champions, and we don't even make the country's top 10.
And you'll also be surprised at the actual amount of wine we drink here in New Jersey as well, but we'll get back to that in a minute.
As far as the ranking goes, New Jersey is ranked 12th in the nation for wine consumption. And even though we beat our neighbors in New York and Pennsylvania, we were bested by Delaware and Connecticut.
And exactly how much does the study say you drink over the course of a year. Well, here in the Garden State, we sip down about a half gallon a year each. Are we the only ones that think that number seems low?
That would mean the average person in the Garden State only drinks about 8 glasses a year? Less than a glass a month? If you like wine, that sure seems low.
There is only one state where the average annual consumption is over a gallon, and that's Idaho (1.21 gallons per year).
