The incident occurred at about 9:04 PM on May 20, at the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Cedar Bridge Avenue, police said.

Authorities did not identify the pedestrian hit by the silver, or white, Jeep Wrangler, but said that the car took off in an easterly direction on Mantoloking Road. They did not indicate the extent of the victim's injuries, or current condition, nor did they elaborate on weather conditions, overhead lighting circumstances, traffic signals, or whether the pedestrian was inside a crosswalk.

The image embedded in this article was caught by a surveillance video camera on the Mantoloking Bridge. It shows the Jeep heading into Mantoloking shortly after the incident, police said, adding that it might have new, minor damage on the front, or on either side..

Investigators of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office are using similar images to narrow down the car's registration number.

If you are familiar with the vehicle, or the owner or driver, of if you noticed anything that evening in the vicinity that can help investigators narrow the search, e-mail patrol officer K. Donnelly, or call the Brick PD Traffic Safety Unit, 732-262-1104.
