It takes work and patience to achieve fitness goals, so if you're just setting out or have been working out for a few weeks or months and wondering why you don't look as shredded as some of the premier athletes and celebrities who look tone and fit -- keep in mind that your fitness journey is unique to you and things take time.

With that in mind though, there are some things you can do to speed up your own process with certain kinds of lifts, exercises, and planning out your week better.

Coach Dana Cavalea, who served as the New York Yankees Director of Strength and Conditioning from 2001 to 2014 and has since formed his own company as a Personal High Performance and Executive Coach, was a guest on 'Shore Time with Vin and Dave' this past Sunday on 94.3 The Point and 105.7 The Hawk and airs weekly from 6-8 am, and dove into what some of our favorite baseball players did to workout and what we can do in our own lives.

You'll see players out there today like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Joey Gallo, or in the past like Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, and others on the Yankees as well as across MLB as these admirable athletes you want to look like, but it takes work.

"Success does not come easy. Most people think that players just get out on the field and they play the game and they go home, but there's a tremendous amount of preparation that goes into being able to play the game at the highest possible level so getting to watch these players train and prepare every single day was really rewarding," Coach Cavalea tells Townsquare Media.

MLB players don't just stroll into the ballpark an hour before the game (unless they literally just got traded and were en route to the ballpark), they arrive many hours ahead of the first pitch to get ready for the game.

"For a seven-o-clock game, you're getting to the ballpark at one-o-clock -- so that's six hours before game time and guys are preparing their bodies, they're preparing their minds, they're finding ways to relax themselves so that they can perform in high-stress situations," Coach Cavalea said.

Just like us, professional baseball players are put on or put together a plan to get stronger and in shape.

"The biggest thing that we do is we put them on a schedule and on a plan. So, we put them on a personalized plan and then we schedule them as to when it is that they're going to train and execute on that plan," Coach Cavalea said. "Then, it's the coach's job along with the player's job to just manage that compliance every single day. If you get people a plan and you give them clarity, and they know that that plan is going to give them a positive yield, and then you coach them for accountability purposes -- day over day, week over week, month over month, you get them to their goal and they start to really trust in their plan."
