FORT LEE — The upper level of the George Washington Bridge was closed for about an Friday morning because of a jumper with a gun.

The Port Authority said that the man, identified by CBS New York as Douglas Peck, 37, of Edgewater,  threatened to jump as he hung off the bridge but was taken into custody after about an hour standoff with police and turning in a weapon they later described as a starter pistol

The bridge was reopened in both directions around 11:15 a.m.

NJ Transit said that buses traveling in and out New York will have at least 30 minute delays.
