NEW YORK — Bruce Springsteen's Broadway run was has been extended by 10 weeks after a sellout of the initial shows at the Walter Kerr Theater.

Ticketmaster made the announcement in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon about the extension of "Springsteen on Broadway" through Feb. 3.

Tickets for the initial run went on sale Wednesday at the 960-seat theater using a "Ticketmaster Verified Fan" program, was intended to prevent ticket brokers from getting seats ahead of fans. Fans had registered by Sunday to buy tickets between $75 and $800 and were then notified by Tuesday night via email they had been granted codes allowing them to buy tickets on Wednesday.

A check of Stubhub mid-Wednesday, however, already showed tickets selling between $1,000 and $2,350.

To get tickets:

  • Registration for the new shows is open through Sunday, Sept 3 at 10 p.m and go on sale Thursday, Sept. 7.
  • Those who already registered for the first round of shows will not need to re-register.
  • Codes from the first round of sales will not carry over. New codes will be sent

Springsteen aficionado Tom Cunningham, host of the Bruce Brunch on 105.7 The Hawk, said there's a lot of mixed emotions among fans.

"Elation by the lucky people who were able to score tickets, plenty of anger from those who didn't, and now a collective sigh of relief with the announcement of the extension," he said. "No system is perfect. I know quite a few people who went in on the 'buddy system' with a spouse/friend and found that that worked out in some cases. I'll be curious to see what kinds of 'rules' are in place in regard to the people who were on standby and didn't get lucky. In any event, let the angst begin anew."

Springsteen will be alone on a stage for the first time since the Devils and Dust tour in 2005.

"My show is just me, the guitar, the piano and the words and music,"Springsteen said in a statement. "Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung. It loosely follows the arc of my life and my work. All of it together is in pursuit of my constant goal to provide an entertaining evening and to communicate something of value."
