An Internet sensation has come to the rescue of one of the Jersey Shore's favorite bakeries.

Dave Portnoy is the founder of Barstool Sports, a website that produces content focused on sports and pop culture.

You may recognize Dave as the 'One Bite' guy who travels the area reviewing pizza for his very popular Facebook video series. Not too long ago, Dave paid a visit to a couple of Freehold hot spots.

Portnoy is pro small business and announced back in December that he was creating dropping $500,000 of his own money to launch The Barstool Fund to help small business owners struggling to keep their doors open due to the impacts of COVID.

What's amazing about The Barstool Fund is that it's not just a one-time thing. Portnoy and his team will check in selected businesses monthly and give them the money to keep the lights on. This will continue until "we are over" the effects of COVID.

Any small business can apply. The only condition is that businesses must show proof that they are paying their employees on time. That's it.

Everyday people like you and I are able to donate to The Barstool Fund, and lots of people are. As of this writing, The Barstool Fund has cut checks to 195 businesses and has raised over $33 million.

I was so excited to be scrolling my Facebook page and see the smiling face of Kimmee from Confections of a Rock$tar in Asbury Park. Kimmee and her crew have been true community leaders throughout the pandemic. Before Kimmee thought about how she was going open the doors to her popular bakery she was making sure that those less fortunate in Asbury Park were fed and safe. That's just who Kimmee is, and we are lucky to have her and her partner and staff at the Jersey Shore.

Turns out, Kimmee applied for assistance from The Barstool Fund, and Dave Portnoy chose Confections! He made an excellent choice. Watch Kimmee's reaction.

Congratulations to the entire staff of Confections of a Rock$tar. This bakery is a community favorite and one of the many gems at the Jersey Shore. And hey, order those cocoa bombs. They are, well, the bomb.
