Backed up by the Dukays, Chicago's GENE CHANDLER scored a #1 hit in 1962 with "THE DUKE OF EARL." It then became his nickname for life. It proved to be his biggest hit, but he did score several other hits such as "Rainbow," "Just Be True," and "Groovy Situation."
