The Pilgrim Academy on West Moss Mill Road in Galloway Township was put on lock-down Thursday morning just before 9:30 am when police responded to reports of shots fired outside the school.

There were no injuries responding officers reported who surveyed the area in and outside the school.

As a precaution, every school in Galloway Township and Port Republic were advised to issue a shelter in place in order to keep the children inside the buildings.

Police arrested 57-year old Michael Maggi without incident.

Maggi faces a number of charges following the shooting that took place where he fired several shots into a wooded area by the school.

Why he did so remains unclear.

He is officially charged with Risking Widespread Injury, Disorderly Conduct, and Harassment and has been lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Investigators seized several firearms and ammunition as well from his residence.

Galloway Police were assisted by New Jersey State Police and Richard Stockton University Police as well as the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad.
