If you've been fully vaccinated, you can travel across the country without having to get tested or self-quarantine after travel and you don't have to get tested before leaving the United States, unless it's required by where you're going, or self-quarantine when coming back to the country, according to new guidance from the CDC.

If you've been fully vaccinated, and wait the two weeks the doses take to set in, it opens up the door to doing more things in certain cases but in no way should you let your guard down, the CDC explains, and it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want, if there are restrictions in place by a particular state or your doctors office or work, you may have to get tested or self-quarantine.

If you have been fully vaccinated, the CDC has put out a list of things you can do at this point.

  • Visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing
  • Visit with unvaccinated people from a single household who are at low risk for severe COVID-19 disease indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing
  • Refrain from quarantine and testing following a known exposure if asymptomatic
  • Resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after travel or self-quarantine after travel.
  • Refrain from testing before leaving the United States for international travel (unless required by the destination) and refrain from self-quarantine after arriving back in the United States.

While effective, the CDC also explains that you should keep your guard up to protect you and others and prevent any possible spread in the community or elsewhere.

The vaccines also may actually provide a good amount of protection against a number of the Covid variant strains out there including the one from the U.K., the CDC adds with preliminary evidence, and if you have been fully vaccinated, the chances of you having an asymptomatic infection go down as does your chances of passing Covid-19 onto others, as of right now, they continue to investigate those findings.

Whether you're half-vaccinated, fully-vaccinated or waiting to be vaccinated, the CDC suggests practicing the same health and safety protocols in place since Day 1.

"Modeling studies suggest that preventive measures such as mask use and social distancing will continue to be important during vaccine implementation."
