Former Freehold Soccer League Treasurer charged with theft

The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office kicks a goal of their own by charging the former Treasurer of the Freehold Soccer League with embezzling $450,000.00 from the volunteer organization between 2012 and 2016.

57-year old Anthony Gallo of Freehold Township faces up to a decade in jail for Second Degree Theft.

The investigation into his alleged criminal activity began in March of last year after The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office Financial Crimes Unit was provided with the tip from the president of the league.

Gallo was charged Wednesday following an investigation that began in March 2016. The investigation began after the Office's Financial Crimes Unit received a referral from the president of the league.

He stands accused of writing checks to himself, his company 'Beacon Financial Services' and cash in the amount of more than $300,000.00, and made numerous ATM withdrawals eclipsing $120,000.00 from the leagues account, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office.

Gallo used the money he allegedly stole to pay his Verizon Wireless bills, thousands of dollars at Honda of Freehold and other personal expenses including at restaurants, household bills and a shopping spree.

He was released from jail pending a future court date.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
