Flu Season Continues To Hit Monmouth & Ocean Counties Hard

This flu season has been an especially tough one around the country, and Monmouth & Ocean Counties are certainly no exception.

According to the latest information from the CDC, the flu activity level remains high throughout New Jersey, and for a majority of the nation for that matter. Half of the nation is reported even higher activity than the Garden State, however.

When you compare the numbers in Monmouth & Ocean Counties form last year's flu season to this year's, they are pretty staggering. This has been a truly bad flu season for the Jersey Shore.

In Monmouth County, the percentage of flu virus is up 146% over last year, and it's not much better in Ocean County, where there is a 110% increase from last year, according to patch.com.

New Jersey is listed among 32 states experiencing high flu activity across the nation, according to the CDC. There are only three states in the U.S.A. reporting only moderate flu activity.

And according to patch.com, hospitals in the area are reporting huge increases in flu activity over last year. As an example, Bayshore Community Hospital, part of Hackensack Meridian Health, is reporting a 187% increase in patients with the flu this January over last January.
