Vetwork was actually born in 1984 under a different name, the Ocean County POW/MIA Organization.  The name change took place four years later with the goal to aid all veterans in the form of counseling for alcohol/drug abuse, PTSD, employment, shelter, homeless prevention, food assistance, VA benefits and more. A non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization the mission and purpose is to meet the immediate and long-term needs of Ocean County Veterans.

Vetwork is governed by an all-Veteran volunteer Board of Directors and currently staffed by disabled veterans and many volunteers. Their short-term goal is to provide services which enable Veterans to maintain or achieve self-sufficiency while the long-term goal is to make certain no Veteran is left behind.

Among their most highly used services is a transportation program that helps senior Veterans and those who are unable or uncomfortable to drive for things like medical appointments, job interviews, hospital visits for loved ones and more.

There is much more to it but with 35,000 Veterans living in Ocean County the demand for their services can be overwhelming.  They have had to rely on private donations and the support of local businesses as they lost their funding from Ocean County four years ago. It’s been a tremendous challenge which is why my friends at Caffrey’s Tavern in Forked River are hosting Wingfest For The Vets on Sunday, September 25th from noon until 4pm in their Backyard.  There will be $20 All-You-Can-Eat Wings, $2.50 cans of Coors Light and Miller Lite, Live Music from South on 9 and the Ocean County Emerald Society Pipes & Drums, Raffles and more!

All proceeds from the event will support Vetwork and the important work they need to continue in our community to help those who were there for us. For more information on this truly great organization visit www.vetwork.org and on September 25th head to Caffrey’s Backyard and eat wings to help veterans in need.
