ASBURY PARK — Normally when someone is rescued from a near-drowning in the ocean, the expected response would be a simple "thank you." That was not what a Metuchen man had in mind after being saved on Wednesday night, officials say.

According to NJ.com, 32-year-old Joshua H. O'Donnell was taken from the shore to police headquarters after threatening the people who had pulled him from the water. O'Donnell, according to police, took a "threatening stance" with rescuers as he shouted at them during the encounter.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest before being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The summer beach season may be over now that Labor Day has passed, but O'Donnell's rescue was one of several lifeguards were responsible for across in Monmouth County this week. According to Newsworks, rescues were reported in Asbury Park on Monday, Sea Girt on Tuesday and Spring Lake on Wednesday as a result of rip currents fueled by Atlantic hurricanes.
