Distressed-person search in Berkeley Township turns up empty
The call late Tuesday night to Berkeley Township police of a seemingly-confused pedestrian walking Route 37 triggered an intensive effort of search and rescue - and no one was found. If you're aware of it, authorities want to hear from you.
Officers from the township, Toms River, neighboring communities, Ocean County K-9 units, helicopters, and the New Jersey State Police Marine squad combed the Pelican Island section for hours after the report arrived of a woman, using a walker, signaling drivers in the dark.
Berkeley Township police ask anyone familiar with the situation to reach them, 732-341-6600.
