We are so used to everything being expensive in the Garden State, it takes us by surprise when we find something that is relatively inexpensive here.

We did actually find something that is relatively inexpensive here in New Jersey, or at least the folks at Wallet Hub did. It turns out that our energy costs are among the lowest one third in the nation.

When Wallet Hub considered electricity, home heating oil and natural gas accounts throughout the United States, New Jersey ranked 34th most expensive among the 50 states and D.C., or 18th least expensive, depending on how you look at it.

Of course, as the temperatures soar here at the Jersey Shore and the humidity just won't loosen it's July grip, it might not be the perfect time of year to tell you that your energy costs are low, but the good news is they are.

One of the factors that really helped New Jersey's overall ranking might be the one factor you thought of when you heard something was cheaper here than in most states, and that is motor fuel costs, which New Jersey ranked in the top 10 for cheapest costs.

So overall, as we expect temperatures near or at 90 today at the Jersey Shore, you can worry a little less each time the air conditioning kicks on. Happy summer!
