Isidro Martinez-Mendez, 51, was a quarter-mile south of the Alexander Avenue crosswalk and signal at about 7:43PM, when he stepped into the northbound lanes, according to investigators in Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni's office.

He was hit by a 2016 Honda Accord, driven by Christina Martinez, 22, of Jackson. Authorities said that she, and a 10-year-old passenger, were unhurt.

Factors such as lighting, road conditions, traffic speed and volume, and possible distractions or impairments have not been issued. Investigators did not disclose whether it was necessary to administer a field sobriety test.

The Prosecutor's Office, the Monmouth Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) and Howell police continue to investigate the circumstances, and at this point no charges are involved.

Witnesses are urged to contact Monmouth County Detective Eric Kerecman, 800-533-7443, or Howell PD Officer Matthew Cherney, 732-938-4575.
