Random notes and thoughts:

Enough talk about the Kentucky Derby already.  Anyone who knows anything about horse racing knows that Maximum Security deserved to be disqualified and it’s a minor miracle that the horse did not cause what could have been a devastating spill involving multiple horses.  Case closed.

While the Yankees keep finding ways to win the Mets can’t seem to find any way to win.  They lost 4-0 in San Diego Monday night and have dropped 4 straight and 9 of their last 12 games.  Their bats have gone silent as the Mets have scored just eight runs in their last six games and on top of that they’ve made a National League-leading 30 errors.

The only saving grace is that despite their poor play they are only 3 ½ games behind the division-leading Phillies but if things don’t turn around soon you could see some drastic moves and I would not be shocked if replacing the manager was one of them.

Meanwhile the Yankees keep bringing up guys from the minors I never heard of and all they do is perform.  Amazing!

Point Boro is the first team to reach the semifinals of the Ocean County Baseball Tournament as the 4th seeded Panthers knocked off Toms River South 2-0 behind a complete-game effort from Nick Guzzi.

Boro will play either top-seed Jackson Memorial or Toms River East in the semis while the other half of the bracket has yet to play either of their quarterfinal games with Jackson Liberty to meet Brick Memorial and surprising Southern taking on Lacey later in the week.

It has been a rough season for the Toms River South Lacrosse team but on senior night they rallied to beat Marlboro 10-9 in overtime Monday.

Andrew Xiques, one of five seniors honored, scored two goals and added three assists to lead the Indians and before the game had his hair cut for the first time in six years.

Elaine McAleavey from D’Jais Hair Salon in Toms River did the honors with his long locks donated to helping make free wigs for cancer patients.  Andrew has also been raising money for the American Cancer Society and is very close to his $5,000 goal.
