TOMS RIVER — A driver who tried to avoid hitting a car that stopped short in front of him wound up on the front lawn of a house, police said.

Joseph Ferguson, 33, told Toms River Police he was driving his 2008 Ford F250 pickup on Coolidge Avenue when he saw a car stopped at Birchbark Place. The Seaside Heights resident swerved to the left to avoid the car but lost control, hit the curb and wound up in the front yard of the home at 620 Coolidge Ave., police said.

Police said Ferguson's truck hit a landscaped wall around a tree before hitting a masonry wall and overturning onto the passenger car.

Ferguson was not injured and has not been charged.
