The U.S Women's Soccer Team will not be bringing home Olympic gold from Tokyo this time around, and the devastating loss to Canada hurts for anyone who was rooting for America to continue its historic domination of the sport. It also spotlights just how amazing the achievements of a superstar born in Point Pleasant really are.

When Christie Pearce Rampone made the decision in 1997 to miss a couple of Monmouth University basketball games (she was there on a basketball scholarship) to try out for the U.S. Women's National soccer team, we wonder if she knew the history that decision would ultimately make.

Needless to say, the future international star made the team and then proceeded to make history, including just about every top prize the sport of soccer had to offer. Since we started the conversation talking about the Olympics, let's begin there.

Over the course of time between 2004 and 2012, Christie Pearce Rampone brought home not one, not two, but three shiny gold medals.and if you dial that calendar back to 2000, you can add an additional shiny silver medal to that collection.

And if you go beyond her illustrious Olympic career, you can toss in a few tiny additional details like two FIFA Women’s World Cup championships and the fact that for two Olympic gold soccer runs, she was the captain of the U.S. team.

This week's women's soccer results show just how difficult it is, no matter how dominant, talented and prepared you are, to score gold. And it's just a reminder of how truly rare and astonishing the accomplishments Christie and the amazing teams she played on really were.

We love you Christie and are so proud the Jersey Shore can be associated with you and all you have achieved!
