Susan Vogel, 74, was trapped inside her 2015 Nissan Sentra after the collision with a 2011 Buick driven by Sondra Oliver, 83, of Boynton Beach, Florida, according to township police.

Vogel sustained injuries to both arms and her right leg, and was driven by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Oliver was unhurt, police said, adding that airbags inflated in both vehicles, and that both drivers were secured by seat restraints.

Officers arriving at the spot near Route 37 and Buckingham Drive at about 2:37 PM found Vogel's car on its roof and Oliver's car on the shoulder, both on the eastbound side of the road.

Investigators surmised that the Nissan, heading east on the highway, ran through a red signal and collided with the Buick, traveling north on Buckingham, spun out, and overturned.

Vogel needed extrication by Manchester and Ridgeway volunteer firefighters.

Police issued no details regarding estimated speeds, traffic volume, or possible driving distractions or impediments.

Also assisting were emergency medical technicians of Quality Medical Transport and MONOC paramedics.

Corporal Douglas Higgins of the Traffic Safety Unit is in charge of the crash investigation.
