
Brick Township man accused of Lakewood bicycle theft
A Brick Township man will answer in Lakewood for allegedly absconding with a bicycle situated outside the owner's house in the middle of the night earlier this week.
Anthony Bivins, 38, was released to await a court date on a charge of receiving stolen property, Lakewood police said.
According to authorities, the bicycle was alongside the Ashley Avenue house, unsecured. The owner arrived in his car at about 12:15 AM on March 23, and spotted a man in a black trenchcoat emerging from alongside the buidling, with the bike.
The owner followed the suspect by car and contacted police. Officers said they found Bivins, on the bike, a short distance away, on Cedarbridge Avenue, near the railroad tracks.
Police did not describe the type of two-wheeler, but estimated its value at $250.. They didn't not speculate why Bivins was on foot in Lakewood after midnight.
Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
