It seems like it was just the other day when I mentioned that the Lakewood BlueClaws season was beginning and yet here I am today telling you that they’ll play their final home game tonight at FirstEnergy Park.

As always the last of 70 home games is Fan Appreciation Night which includes post game fireworks, kids get to run the bases, food and drink specials throughout the night, specials in the Claws Cove and BlueClaws players will be at the gates beginning at 6 p.m. for pictures and autographs.

While reserve seats are sold out General Admission tickets are available by visiting blueclaws.com/tickets or calling 732-901-7000 option 2.  The BlueClaws close out the season with a holiday weekend series in Hagerstown, Maryland.

While the end of the season is another indication that, dare I say it, summer is winding down you can start the countdown to next season.  The home opener is April 16, 2020 just 233 days away.

The 3rd annual Ocean County Irish Festival is coming up on Saturday, September 7th at Manahawkin Lake Park.  Hosted by the Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Ocean County Chapter the free event runs from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and will include live music celebrating Irish Heritage throughout the day, performances by Irish Step Dancers and The Emerald Society of Ocean County Pipe & Drum Band.

There will be a beer garden with wine, ciders and seltzers, food, games and shopping, 50/50’s throughout the day and more.

Caffrey’s Tavern co-owner Dan Coleman will be saluted by the organization as “Irishman of the Year.”  Dan and I have been friends for some 45 years since we attended Ocean County College together and while he clearly does not deserve the honor I am very happy for him.

By the way the festival planning committee seeks sponsors and in turn donates a portion of the proceeds to local schools and scholarships, veterans groups, food banks and other charitable organizations.  For more information you can call (732) 735-4030 or visit oceanfsos.wildapricot.org
