Beachwood Celebrates the Fourth with a Bang

Clearly a lot has changed over 77 years but one constant has been that on the 4^th of July the borough of Beachwood hosts a fireworks display.

There was a time when many towns celebrated our nation’s birthday with fireworks but the number has dwindled over the years because local municipalities and governments can no longer take on the financial obligation.

Officially known as Beachwood Fireworks on the River I have been a part of the committee that puts on this annual display for many years and it’s done so exclusively through business and individual sponsorships and donations.  It takes a coordinated and combined effort which WOBM has been proud to help sponsor for about fifteen years.

Beachwood officials, along with great support from the police and public works departments as well as the fire and first aid squads all do their part to insure a smooth and safe event.

Thousands will gather at Beachwood Beach and many other areas along the Toms River, including surrounding towns like Pine Beach, Ocean Gate, Toms River, South Toms River and Island Heights to watch the extravaganza.  In addition hundreds of boats will find a place to drop anchor in the river and bay and look up in the sky shortly after 9 p.m. next Tuesday.

The only way to continue this 77-year tradition is for local financial support.  From a business end Comcast and WOBM lead the way along with Spirits Unlimited, Connor Strong & Buckelew, T&M Associates, Suplee, Clooney & Company, the law firm of Hiering, Gannon & McKenna and JCP&L-A First Energy Company.

However what’s even more important is donations made by the public. As I have said many times if everyone who watches the fireworks and lets out oohs and ahs donated just $1.00 then the show will go on for many years.
