For most sports fans a “bucket list” would include attending things like the Super Bowl, Final Four, Kentucky Derby and maybe the Olympics.

However if you were to ask Bob Badders, managing editor of our Shore Sports Network he would suggest you add something else to that list and you don’t have to travel far or pay too much for tickets.  It’s the annual wrestling match between Point Beach and Point Boro which will take place tonight on the Panthers home mat.

By the way if you don’t have a ticket don’t bother showing up as the 898-seat capacity Memorial Middle School Gym is sold out like it is every year in the “Battle of Point Pleasant.”

Point Boro Athletic Director Chris Ferrone said tickets went on sale Monday with each school getting an allotment, plus they could be purchased on line. The tickets were sold out in about 24 hours.  You might ask why they don’t move the event to a larger facility as both the Panthers and Garnett Gulls gyms are small and clearly more students and fans would like to see the match.

While there has been talk about a neutral location don’t expect a move to happen. Part of the charm is that it’s a special event that the schools and towns embrace.

In full disclosure I will be attending the match tonight for the first time because our Shore Sports Network will be streaming it live with Bob Badders and former Brick Memorial & Bergen Catholic assistant coach Russ Pascale calling the action.  So if you can’t go and want to witness an epic local high school sporting event then check out around 6:40 when we begin our coverage.

I was thrilled to hear that last night the Central Regional Board of Education named Jerry Frulio the head baseball coach of the Golden Eagles.  Jerry was an outstanding player at Central for the late Al Kunzman and would return as head coach of his alma mater and later St. Rose.

In recent years he has created and run the widely-acclaimed Strike Out Autism event in the spring and it will be good to see him back in a Central uniform.
