Barnegat woman rescued from burning car, hospitalized
BARNEGAT - A township woman is rushed to trauma center care after a fiery Monday car crash that left her trapped in her burning vehicle.
Joyce Valente, 86, was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City after being pulled from the wreckage by township fire fighters, according to Police Lieutenant Jeffrey Ryan.
Officers were summoned at 2:16 PM to Route 554 (West Bay Avenue), near the Heritage Point South living complex.
Investigators determined that Valente was westbound in a 2008 Cadillac CTS. It veered off the road, and collided with a utility pole belonging to Atlantic City Electric. A New Jersey State Forest Five Service crew squelched the flames while Barnegat firefighters extricated her, police said.
Officers closed the avenue for aobut 30 minutes. The crash is under investigation. Authorities have yet to disclose possible contributing factors.
