Barnegat Man dies after accidentally shooting himself
A Barnegat man has died after investigators say he accidentally shot himself disassembling a firearm late on Saturday night, announced Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Barnegat Chief Keith Germain.
Barnegat Police were called to a residence in reference to a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Gunning River Road.
An investigation determined that James Hammer, 46, of Barnegat had accidentally shot himself while disassembling a firearm.
Hammer was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford Township before being flown to Atlanticare Regional Trauma Center in Atlantic City.
Sadly, Hammer died from his wounds around midnight.
