Atlantic City drug dealer indicted for selling lethal dose of heroin to Evesham woman

An Atlantic City man, who sold a lethal concoction of heroin laced with fentanyl to a Burlington County woman who later overdosed and died, has been indicted, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced on Thursday.

Kahlil Carpenter, 30, was charged by a Grand Jury with First-Degree Strict Liability for Drug-Induced Death, Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Third Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute and Third Degree Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

The indictment of Carpenter, who currently sits in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly and will soon be arraigned in Superior Court, was returned July 16 and signed by Prosecutor Coffina.

This all goes back to 2019, when on December 14, Evesham Police responded to a home on Inverness Circle on a report of a woman who was unconscious and unresponsive.

When officers went inside the home, they found Holly Morris, 37, deceased in her bed.

Prosecutor Coffina said that the autopsy, performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood, determined that Morris died from 'fentanyl toxicity', "with levels in her system five times greater than the amount necessary to cause death."

Investigators learned that Morris met Carpenter in Lumberton on December 13, 2019 to buy the drugs.

Sentencing has yet to be scheduled for Carpenter.
