Asbury pair accused of knifepoint gas station holdup
OCEAN TOWNSHIP, Monmouth County - Two suspects, believed to have robbed a gas station attendant at knifepoint Wednesday night, occupy space in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold while awaiting initial court appearances.
Tywan Thomas, 19, and Troy White, 20, both of Asbury Park, were tracked to a house in Neptune Township shortly after the theft at a Shell station on Asbury Avenue (Route 66), according to police, who were notified at about 9:02 PM. The attendant escaped injury, police said. No indication was given of the amount that was taken.
Officers Arthur Barnek and Chris Stenger, Detectives Mike Melody, Jesse Orbach, and Greg Martone, and Detective Sergeqant Patrick Martin responded, with a Monmouth County Sheriff's K-9 team of Officer Joseph Aretino and Ari.
Investigators were told that the knife-wielding suspect and the attendant fought before the bandit ran toward Green Grove Road, where both were found.
White was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. Thomas was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
