Two Ocean County Men Charged After Allegedly Threatening Detective
Authorities say two men from Ocean County are facing charges after they allegedly threatened a detective and members of his family.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer says 25-year-old Anthony Chieffo and 22-year-old Alexander Santos, both of Brick Township, were arrested on Tuesday. They were both charged with Retaliation Against a Witness and three counts of Terroristic Threats.
Billhimer's office says,
On March 29, 2021, a Brick Township Police Detective reported receiving threatening phone calls and text messages on his police department-issued cellular phone; the threats were directed at the Detective and members of his family. A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit revealed that the threatening calls and text messages had originated from Chieffo’s cell phone.
On Tuesday, detectives with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office stopped a vehicle being driven by Santos and Chieffo was a passenger. Both were arrested and charged; they are currently being held in the Ocean County Jail pending detention hearings.
Billhimer said in a statement, "Threats against law enforcement will not be tolerated."
