An Era Ends at Red Bank Catholic

Frank Edgerly is one of the most respected high school football coach coaches in the shore and state and during two tenures covering a total of 14 seasons has built a premier program at Red Bank Catholic.

In 2018 the Caseys went undefeated and won the NJSIAA Non-Public Group 3 title and many predicted that last season would produce similar results.  It did not and RBC slumped to a disappointing 5-4 with a team that included Edgerly’s son as the team’s primary quarterback.

Wednesday the school announced that Edgerly was stepping down to pursue other coaching interests and Mike Lange would replace him after serving as defensive coordinator the last two seasons.  Edgerly’s resume includes Director of Recruiting Operations at Rutgers for Greg Schiano and several years in the NFL as a scout and assistant coach with both the Patriots and Browns. Edgerly will indeed have a future in football as he’s an outstanding coach. He’s even a better person.

While on the subject of coaches, congratulations to Manchester assistant Brian Wilkinson who yesterday was announced as one of the 100 regional winners of the Positive Coaching Alliance’s Double-Goal Coach Award.  Wilkinson was one of three winners from New Jersey (and the only football coach) selected from the 700 national nominees for the award.

A selection committee will now pick 25 of the 100 coaches to receive a $1,000 National Award which would be presented in May at Santa Clara University in California.  Previously a head coach at Toms River South and Pinelands, Wilkinson has spent the past few years assisting Bill Furlong who stepped down as Manchester’s head coach following this past season.
