Wedding anniversaries often don’t come with a lot of pomp and circumstance unless there are milestones….10, 20, 25, 30, 40 and the ultimate 50-year golden anniversary.  For our 40th last year our children threw us a terrific surprise party which made for a very special day and celebration.

Today is the 41st anniversary of Jane Viggiano becoming Jane Williams and our celebration will be somewhat subdued.  However if this past year has taught me anything it’s to be grateful for a partner who truly understands the part of traditional wedding vows when they say “for better or worse, in sickness and in health, etc.”  It was this time last year when I started having pain in my left leg which eventually led to herniated disc surgery, only after I survived a near-death experience which is another story.  Anyway just as I started recovering from that I had spinal fusion surgery in May which left me with painful nerve damage in my left foot that will likely take a long time to get better.

I don’t tell you this to feel sorry for me but rather have a deep understanding of what Jane has been through because she has been a wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, caretaker, therapist, motivational speaker…you get the picture.  She has helped me take a shower, get dressed, tie my shoes and lays out the many medications I am taking.  Most of all she has had to deal with my ups and downs, mood changes, frustrations.  I honestly have no idea how I could get through this without her.

So 41 years after she said “I do” she still does and I could not be luckier.

Happy Anniversary Jane, I love you…sure hope I’m better for our 42nd.
