Actor/Comic/Musician JERRY VAN DYKE has died at the age of 86. It took him a little while to get into a hit show, with many missteps along the way including The Judy Garland Show, Picture This, Accidental Family, Headmaster, 13 Queens Blvd., and the infamous My Mother the Car. The latter has been considered the worst sitcom ever by many critics, and it is a show Jerry picked over the starring role in Gilligan's Island. After living in the shadow of his immensely successful older brother, Dick, Jerry finally landed his most memorable and successful role as Luther Van Damme on the long-running Coach in the 80s and 90s. After that show ended after 8 seasons, Jerry earned recurring roles in You Wish and Yes, Dear. Coincidentally, the man whose mother was a car in that 1965 show that still runs in syndication suffered a major car crash two years ago, and was never the same afterwards, leading to his ultimate demise this weekend.
