It’s not unusual for football coaches to swap assignments in the off-season.  Maybe the running backs coach switches with the wide receivers coach.  What is somewhat unusual is for the head coach and defensive coordinator to switch and when you consider that they are father and son well that can’t happen too often.

However that is exactly what has transpired at Rumson-Fair Haven where Jeremy Schulte takes over as head coach and his father Jerry becomes the defensive coordinator.  Jerry is one of the deans of Shore Conference football, having spent nearly 50 years on the sidelines in which he was head coach at Mater Dei, Wall and for the last six years at Rumson in addition to serving as an assistant for many years.

The Bulldogs are one of the premier programs in the shore and state and have won six state sectional titles in the past 12 years.  They are coming off a 9-2 season in which their only losses were to Red Bank Catholic and then Woodrow Wilson in the Central Jersey Group 3 Finals. Rumson opens their season on Saturday, September 3 against Toms River North in a game that will be played at Rutgers University.
