Today is the 50th anniversary of a meeting that resulted in the most requested photograph in the entire National Archives which is saying something when you consider there are about 25 million of them.  It was December 21, 1970, when Elvis Presley met President Richard Nixon in the Oval Office.  Elvis had recently been named by the U.S. Junior Chamber as one of the 10 Outstanding Young Men in the nation (he was 35 at the time) and was in the midst of a successful comeback.

He posed for the picture in a typical Elvis get-up which included a black cape while Nixon was in the traditional dark suit.  I guess the only other unlikely White House meeting to rival this one was when President Trump welcomed Kanye West in 2018.
