MANCHESTER - Four-hundred-ninety-five bags of heroin detour a Berkeley Township suspect from Route 530 in the township to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.

Cody Lessing, 24, of Bayville, is charged with possession of, and possession with intent to distribute, heroin, hindering evidence by concealment, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to township police.

The incudent unfolded Monday in a Wawa parking lot on Route 70 in Whiting. Members of the township's Narcotics Enforcement Team found reason to consider activing around Lessing's Dodge Stratus to be suspicious.

The car was stopped on Route 530 for a road infraction, police said, and information developed during the encounter led to the search. They estimated the street value of the drugs to be in excess of $3,400.

During processing, Lessing's car was seized, pending forfeiture. Members of the Manchester PD patrol bureau and K9 squad took part in the arrest.
