Woman hit by NJ Transit train hospitalized

MIDDLETOWN — A woman was hospitalized after being struck by an NJ Transit train on Saturday night.

Spokeswoman Penny Bassett told New Jersey 101.5 that train #7264 headed for New York from Long Branch struck Blayke Terry, 22, of Middetown at the Church Street crossing around 8:20 p.m.

The crossing is next to NJ Transit's Middletown station.

Terry was hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to Bassett, who said NJ Transit service on the North Jersey Coast Line was suspended for a time on Saturday night but is operating normally on Sunday.

It's the second incident on the NJCL in two days. A family took a wrong turn onto the closed Brighton Avenue crossing in Long Branch on Thursday night and was struck by a southbound train but no one was hurt.

An Amtrak Acela train sideswiped an incoming NJ Transit train on Friday morning as it pulled away from the platform at New York Penn Station causing the Amtrak train to derail. Several riders suffered minor injuries.
