My baseball season ended at 11:11 last night when little-known Conor Gillaspie hit a 3-run homer in the top of the 9th to give the Giants a 3-0 lead over the Mets.  I turned my TV off then, not needing to watch the Mets go down in order in the bottom of the 9th against San Francisco’s Madison Bumgarner who has become a legendary postseason performer.

It was a bitter end to a roller coaster season that started with such promise six months earlier and ended so suddenly. This one game wild card format does not allow for a bad night and does not allow fans of the losing team to even feel a part of the playoffs because it’s over in a matter of four hours.

Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard who threw 7 brilliant innings summed it up best in a tweet, “baseball has a way of ripping your heart out, stabbing it, putting it back in your chest, then healing itself just in time for Spring Training.”

Pretty well said for a 24-year old.

I don’t like recommending movies because often people will tell you afterwards they didn’t like it nearly as much as you did. However “Deepwater Horizon” is riveting, intense, gripping and when it’s over you will understand why it cost $150 million to make.

The true story is about the drilling rig explosion that took place in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 which took the lives of 11 crew members and resulted in the largest oil spill ever in U.S. waters. Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell head the cast and I thought the movie was very well done and serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives.
