Doing the morning show today the subject of food came up (when doesn't it?) and I started asking about White House Subs in Atlantic City.  I heard they were outta of this world good which led me to talking about one of the best jobs I've ever had: working in the deli at the General Store in Colts Neck.  I loved making sandwiches and I make the best (yes it IS my opinion but is also the opinion of others).

That's when the phone calls starting pouring in, one of which was Eric from Toms River and he told me about Luigi's Butcher Shop in South Toms River.  I went to Luigi's and that gave me an idea: tell me in YOUR opinion, who makes the best submarine sandwich in Monmouth and Ocean Counties and I'm going to do my best to try them.  And to be fair, I'm going to order the exact same sub from each place: ham , salami, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, extra vinegar, a little oil and a little mayo.  Then I will critique and comment with pictures on each one with NO slamming because again it's MY opinion.

So, let's start with Luigi's.  First the store is GREAT & a REAL butcher shop, not many of those left.  Everything looked so fresh and as for the sandwich, the deli meat was good, lettuce was crisp and tomatoes were Jersey, but for me it was too much bread and it overpowered the taste.  That being said, I want to RAVE about their macaroni salad with tuna - it was delicious!

I'm really happy Eric called in about Luigi's Butcher Shop in South Toms River, I'm going to make it a point to try the steaks and organic chicken next time.

Okay so now let me hear from you: can you suggest the next stop for a sub?  I'm really looking forward to putting on a couple of pounds… NOT!  I'll just eat half of a half and give the rest to Bob!

Who has the best subs in Ocean/Monmouth County?
