A Whiting woman dies from injuries sustained shortly after a head on collision in Manchester Township around noon on Monday.

Police say 81-year old Gerda Kretschmer veered across the center line in her red Toyota Echo while heading east on Route 70 near mile-marker 41 in the Whiting section, then onto the westbound shoulder, swerved and couldn't avoid colliding with a driver from Brick Township.

Kretschmer's car air bags fully deployed and her car sustained significant damage.

She was extricated from her car by members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company and transported to Community Medical Center where she passed away.
