What makes high school football so special is it’s not just a game but an event that encompasses more than just players and coaches.

At many schools you will find rabid student sections who dress in special themes and choreograph their cheers and chants.  Of course you have cheerleaders, spirit squads and marching bands who all combine to create an atmosphere that on a fall Friday night is truly special.

Every week I get to witness it all first hand as the Jersey Mike’s Game of the Week takes our Shore Sports Network crew around the shore area.  Of course for us the focus is on the game but I love to take in the sights, sounds and smells at places like Brick, Toms River South, Jackson Memorial, Brick Memorial, Point Boro, Southern Regional and many others.

That includes halftime when I get at least a few minutes to catch what’s no longer just the marching band playing a few songs but rather a full-scale halftime show complete with scenery, props and more.

I have my favorites but are more interested in what you think.  The Shore Sports Network is looking to find what school puts on the most entertaining halftime show.  You have until Sunday to cast your vote on shoresportsnetwork.com and from all the nominees we will select the top five for another round of voting next week.  The winning school will get a plaque from Ocean Trophies in Lanoka Harbor and even better…bragging rights around the shore.

If you’re a Jets fan (and even if you’re not) then you are invited to a Jets viewing party Sunday at the all-new Sportika Sports Complex in Manalapan where you can meet former “Gang Green” great Joe Klecko.  Watch the Jets play the Dolphins, get an autograph and picture with #73 and even have a chance to win memorabilia or Jets tickets.

The Shore Sports Network is thrilled to partner with the indoor sports complex and Peter Grandich & Company on the first of two viewing parties with one for the Giants next month.  It’s all free and complete details are available at shoresportsnetwork.com where you can register. I’ll be there Sunday and hope to see you.
