It seems like yesterday I was lamenting how quickly the summer came and went and now we are in the final days of September and I’m wondering what happened to this month.  I know Labor Day was late but it seems like the month flew by and here were are with October right around the corner.

Speaking of fast let me run some quick-hitters by you:

  • Normally I would be flying a Penn State flag outside my house this time of year but my wife and I decided to keep the Mets flag up until their season was over.  Little did we know it would take us into October as the newly-crowned NL East champs have plenty of baseball left to play.  It sure is exciting and it’s a long time coming.
  • Just when you were starting to get excited about the Jets they turn in an awful performance Sunday in losing to the Eagles whose fans were ready to jump off the Walt Whitman Bridge.
  • Regardless of your religious beliefs you have to be impressed with the Pope’s visit to the United States and how it genuinely moved people of all faiths.  Unfortunately the good feelings don’t usually last all that long.
  • When I tell someone that both my children live in Hoboken it often brings a response of how amazed they are at how that city has turned around.  We paid them a visit yesterday and headed down Washington Street for the annual Arts & Music Festival which was really impressive with over 300 exhibitors and an amazing array of food choices.  Of course you do have the challenge of finding a parking spot which is never easy.

Regardless of the sport or circumstances it’s hard to condone running up the score late in the game against an overmatched opponent for two reasons. First is the fact that you put yourself in position to have the same thing happen to your team somewhere down the road.  Second and most important it’s not the feelings of the other’s teams coaches that should be taken into consideration but rather the players themselves.  The game is about the kids and adults who forget that need to be reminded.

  • Please don’t tell me how the third season of “Ray Donovan” ended. I need something to look forward to today.
