It’s certainly happened before but wow what a contrast in weather from one day to the next this past weekend.

Saturday was simply spectacular and it seemed like everyone was outside working around their homes or at Lowe’s or Home Depot buying stuff to do that work.  That’s what we did following an early morning walk on the boardwalk in Seaside where it was much cooler with a strong wind blowing out of the south.

If you live here long enough you know that there is often a difference of about 20 degrees from inland to the beach and it’s somewhat comical to watch those who come wearing bathing suits with sweatpants are more appropriate.

I did manage to catch the closing moments of Toms River South’s win over Allentown in one of the 24 baseball games that was part of the 6th Annual Strike Out Autism Challenge.  It was fitting that event took place on the nicest day we have had this spring and among the highlights was CBA’s victory over Wall in a matchup of the top two teams in the Shore Sports Network Top 10.

Not only did the Colts hand the Crimson Knights their first loss of the season but they gave head coach Marty Kenney his 800th career win, second only to TR South’s Ken Frank (872) on the all-time wins list for New Jersey high school coaches.

Sunday of course we woke up to rain, wind and temperature that were half of what they were the day before.  There was nobody working outside but stores, movie theatres and other indoor venues were packed with people.

It was simply a miserable day in many places with six major league baseball games postponed, some due to extreme cold weather.  Just to give you an idea of how lousy of a spring it’s been through the first 18 days of the major league season 20% of the games were postponed.

Sooner or later we are bound to get more days like Saturday. Let’s hope it’s sooner.
