Wegmans issues Facebook scam alert

Don't be suckered into a Facebook scam that drags Wegmans Food Markets into its clutches, say executives of the Rochester, NY-based chain.

A company employee's curiosity triggered the investigation and alert.

The post displays the image of a Wegmans storefront and claims to be issuing free grocery coupons worth $200, officials said. Whatever it really is, the company claims no affiliation nor support for it.

In a prepared statement, Wegmans Media Relations Vice President Jo Natale said, “We’re actively working to have this fraudulent post removed from Facebook. We urge consumers not to click it, share it, or provide any personal information.”

The chain has 88 stores in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.
