The calendar tells us its spring but we continue to be stuck in a weather rut that hopefully will end soon.  The extended forecast tells us that we can leave temperatures in the 40’s behind and a slow warm-up is on the way but I wouldn’t put away my sweaters just yet.

I’m not a golfer, having “retired” from the game years ago, but I am a golf fan who loves watching the majors, even though I admit it’s not the same without Tiger Woods. Sorry but that’s the truth.

I was locked into the final round of the Master’s yesterday like many others and when Jordan Spieth opened up a 5-shot lead after the front nine I figured it was over. I wasn’t rooting against Spieth in his bid to make it back-to-back Masters Titles but I wanted there to be drama heading into the final holes and an exciting finish and it appeared the 22-year old Texan was taking that possibility away.

Then in front of millions of eyes the wheels started coming off as Spieth bogeyed 10 & 11 and on 12 looked like a bad duffer at Bey Lea when he hit two in the water and scored a quadruple bogey 7 on a par 3.  A couple of hours later a very uncomfortable and shocked Spieth helped put the green jacket on little-known Englishman Danny Willet, who only got to play his second-ever Masters because his wife gave birth to their first child early. Her original due date was yesterday.

Turned out April 10th was not memorable for the birth of Zachariah James but for his 28-year old father vaulting to the top of the golfing world.

Wrestling fans best remember Frank Molinaro as a three-time state champion at Southern Regional High School and an NCAA champion at Penn State but the 27-year old showed this weekend his wrestling days are far from over.  Molinaro won the 143 pound freestyle weight class at the U.S Olympic Trials in Iowa City in stirring fashion and is officially a member of the team that will head to Rio de Janeiro this August.

However in order to him to actually wrestle at the Olympic Games he would need strong performances in one of two upcoming qualifying events in Mongolia and Turkey.  For more on “Frank the Tank” visit shoresportsnetwork.com.
