A quote you often hear is “the only constant in life is change” and it’s never been more accurate than today.

Ironically the quote is credited to a Greek professor who lived from 535 BC to 475 BC.I guess there was a lot of change in those days as well. Times they are a changing and here are some of the things WalletPop says are vanishing from America. There is some real nostalgia here:

  • Community Banks
  • Cash Registers That Make a Ka-Ching Sound
  • Alleys (for those who grew up in cities)
  • Charcoal (although I love that Kingsford TV commercial where the guy wakes up from a long winter without grilling).
  • Neighborhood kids who will do odd jobs (from shoveling snow to mowing your lawn).
  • Cars with manual shifts
  • Companies that match your 401K contributions.
  • Butcher Shops
  • Sidewalks
  • Fax Machines
  • Daily Newspapers
  • Movie Rental Stores
  • VCR’s
  • Cameras that use film
  • Montgomery Ward Inc. corporate headquarters'' logo

  • The Milkman
  • Hand-written Letters
  • Personal Checks
  • Drive-in Movie Theatres (there were once around 4,000…now 357)
  • Classified Ads
  • The Yellow Pages
  • Customer Service
  •

By the way, talk about vanishing do you remember Paine-Webber, Eastern Airlines, RCA, Adelphia Cable, EF Hutton, Burger Chef, TWA, Standard Oil, Montgomery Ward and FW Woolworth?
