Unionized flight mechanics to picket at Newark Liberty, LaGuardia

Heading to Newark Liberty International or LaGuardia Airport Friday? You might be greeted by a line of Teamsters.

The union sent notice today that their mechanics connected to United Air Lines will conduct informational pickets, at the two airports and at others nationwide, in light of stalled contract negotiations.

Teamsters International says it represents about 1,000 mechanics at the two airports, and about 9,000 across the country.

Lines are scheduled to form in Newark Terminal C at 8:30 AM, 12 Noon and 3 PM. At LaGuardia's departure entrance, the times are 9:15 AM, 12:30 PM and 3 PM.

Union officials said that 93 percent of the voting workers rejected United's final offer and  authorized a strike.

An inquiry to the airline for comment has gone without response.
