Like most of you I don’t really know all the specifics of the immigration ban that was signed by President Donald Trump a few days ago. I do know it prohibits immigrants from seven terror-prone and Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States for 90 days, keeps refugees from any country out for the next 120 days and bars those refugees from Syria indefinitely.

Trump is following through on a campaign promise as he looks for ways to create extreme-vetting to basically keep terrorists out of this country.

I don’t know if the new president’s executive order is good or bad, right or wrong. .In truth it’s probably somewhere in the middle.  Clearly most Americans are concerned about terrorism and recent polls are somewhat divided although they do reveal that the majority of those surveyed were in favor of a temporary ban until the federal government comes up with a better system to screen out potential terrorists.

Those who defend Trump will say he is simply doing what he said he would during the campaign and it’s refreshing when a candidate actually follows through on his promises.  Opponents are outraged over the immigration ban which they insist will backfire and cause increasing tension around the world. They also said it violates the basic freedoms that set the U.S. apart from other countries.

Again I find myself somewhere in the middle.  I did not like the rush to implement this especially when clearly many in the government were not on board or even brought up to speed.  It seems additional thought could have gone into this but with this President he sometimes speaks before he thinks which is going to get him (and us) into trouble at some point.

Fasten your seat belts because this ride shows no signs of slowing down.
