Adam J. Bakos. 17, of Manahawkin, and Anthony M.Walker, 59, of Neptune Township, were hospitalized with internal injuries after the crash on Route 72 at Stafford Park Boulevard, police said.

Officers responded at about 7:35 AM. Investigators drew the preliminary conclusion that Bakos, eastbound on the highway in a sport utility vehicle, collided with Walker's van as Walker engaged a left turn from Stafford Park Boulevard onto westbound 72.

The impact in the intersection forced Bakos's SUV to roll over. Traffic was detoured for about an hour while the SUV and the van were towed from the spot.

Bakos and Walker were treated at Southern Ocean Medical Center. Police said that Bakos was driven to hospitalization by a family member after the crash.

Walker was given a careless-driving ticket. Police said the matter is pending as a future court date in Stafford.

Patrolman Jillson handles the investigation. Stafford Township volunteer firefighters, township EMS staffers and MONOC paramedics assisted.
